hoost - web hosting platform

We helped Marlene build a professional site for her personal brand, as well as setting up her social media so she can start interacting with her community.

Key Points

The Background

Grawlabs started offering hosting to our clients when we originally started. It was not ever supposed to become one of our major service offering, but over time we found more and more clients moving their hosting to us. This presented an interesting business opportunity.

During this time we were managing the hosting of our clients as an add-on service, but as the volumes began to grow we needed to relook at how we ran our hosting service.

The Challenge

Our pricing is, and has always been very competitive for hosting solutions (and we intend to keep it that way). With the recent developments in the realm of hosting tools (cPanel getting acquired by the same company who owns Plesk), we had to look at things a little differently. We could either set up shop using cPanel or Plesk, or we could challenge the norm and innovate, presenting our hosting with a unique tool (with the same capabilities as cPanel) that we have control over. Being the type of people who don’t shy away from challenges, we chose the latter.

The Result

The result is awesome (even if we do say so ourselves). Though still being developed with a beta planned soon, the hoost web hosting platform presents a easy and fun, yet powerful and sophisticated set of tools for individuals, resellers, and agencies alike.

We will be running a blog on this project, so be sure to keep an eye out.

The Tiny Astronaut

We decided to play around with some “new” features released by some of the website tools we used and make a fun little website on why websites are important. We tried to do it in a story format, so there’s that…

Key Points

The Background

We often get strange looks when we say websites are an absolute crucial part of any business or operation, and that usually leads into lengthy discussions. This led us to try and sum up why a website is important, so here’s our first attempt (we’re sure there will be many more).

The Challenge

We had to think of one single reason any business or organisation should have a website. Sure, there are tons of reasons, but that’s the problem! We wanted a “one-size-fits-all” reason. Challenge accepted!

The Result

We came up with one word, after many hours of discussion, and we kind of like it. We hope you do too:

Schovic

Scholastic makes and sells local african themed items. We approached her about making a website for her as a community project. Check out what we came up with.

Key Points

The Background

Scholastic runs her little shop on a property with many other shops. She is very involved in the community and she does custom orders quite often. As a community project, we approached Scholastic about doing a very simple website for her, along with a logo and business card design so she can create some awareness of her and her work.

The Challenge

Schovic had no branding, so we had to address that, and then gather up images on all her products, decide on a theme, and mesh it all together.

The Result

We did a logo design, then a business card, then the website, which is a single page design primarily serving as a showcase of her products, and then set up a Facebook page for her to manage herself.

Learn to Design

Regan decided to launch a site for his personal graphic design classes. He approached us with his design and together we made it happen.

Key Points

The Story

This is actually the second site we built with Regan, the first being his tattoo parlour site Ross Ink Tattoos & Piercings. Regan gave us the design concept that he wanted, and we built the site. Quick, easy, and clean. What a fun little project.

Key Points

The Background

Like with most businesses (especially online / internet businesses) our website has been redesigned a bajillion times and rebuilt a fair amount of times too, but we wanted to add this one to our works as it was the site we launched with a key turning point for us all.

Frost CRM

We wanted to build an end-to-end solution for small business owners that combines CRM, email campaigns, accounting, and some other businessy functionality. So, we built this: Frost CRM, because it’s cool.

Key Points

The Heart Warming Story of Frost CRM

Originally, Grawlabs was founded because of the idea we had for Frost CRM. We are a bunch of nerdy engineers with a shared passion for technology and using it to help solve problems.

As the company evolved, our offerings evolved, but Frost CRM stays very close to our hearts, and we still dedicate a substantial amount of time and brain resources to the continuous improvement of the system. It has been in development since 2016, with lots of lessons learned (and I mean LOTS), we still strive to make it better every day.

We’re gonna use this opportunity to give a shoutout to our community who’s been along for the ride: YOU ALL ROCK (you know who you are).

So yeah, talk to us about this awesome system, it’ll make your life easier, without breaking the bank.

The Challenge

We set out to do the impossible: make a system that everyone can use, for just about any function in running a business, but it needs to be simple, easy to use, flexible, reliable, a few other adjectives, and (really importantly) affordable.

The Result

Three years of testing, going back to the drawing board, redesigning, re-evaluating, drinking way too much coffee, rebuilding, re-releasing, holding our breath, and making small steps towards our goal. We learned what not to use, do, or think, and that there is such a thing as horribly bad I-wish-I-never-thought-of-this ideas. Today we’re really happy we kept at it (thanks Mr Edison), and we’re really excited to share this with you: a simple to use, customisable, powerful software solution we are proud to put our name on.

Marlene DP

We helped Marlene build a professional site for her personal brand, as well as setting up her social media so she can start interacting with her community.

Key Points

The Background

Marlene has been involved in many industries over the years, ranging from running a personal store selling educational toys for children, to running a graphics design business, building and running the largest multi-discipline schools equestrian NPO in South Africa (SANESA).

Marlene approached us to help her define and launch her brand.

The Challenge

The biggest challenge we had with this project is that the brand itself was not yet completely developed. We were approached with some concepts, which we then used to flesh out the design with Marlene.

The Result

In the end we were able to identify the central theme of everything Marlene has done in her life: her undeniable passion for development of human potential. And that was it, we had our brand. From that point on we could turn the project into a beautiful showcase of her life’s work, her experience and wisdom, and her undeniable contribution to the lives she touches.

EquiHub

EquiHub is a community focused project to give the equestrian industry a central platform of information relating to all parts of the horsey world.

Key Points

The Background

EquiHub is a initiative to for the South African Equestrian industry to build a central community driven hub for all equestrian enthusiasts. Though they are only in the preliminary stages of the project, they made sure to get a simple, easy to use website up for all interested parties to explore.

The Challenge

The equestrian world is very segmented, with many channels of information, sometimes contradicting information, going around through multiple platforms. Our biggest challenge was to try and understand the community, their need, and what would be the best approach to launching this project.

Work In Progress

We are still working closely with the EquiHub team to tweak their offering to best work for their community.

SnappySite

We helped Marlene build a professional site for her personal brand, as well as setting up her social media so she can start interacting with her community.

Key Points

The Background

SnappySite is an initiative for building single page websites and landing pages. This project is aimed at the everyman who knows they need or want a website, but gets overwhelmed with development house / digital agency pricing, content requests, and the nitty-gritty details they don’t know, but know is going to pop-up down the line and bite them.

Simple, clean, basic websites to get you going. You can always build on to the foundation at a later stage.

The Challenge

We found that people tend to be overwhelmed by the many faucets of getting your website online, not to mention the price tag that tends to accompany said website. We had to sit and take a long, hard look at what it is that will differentiate SnappySite from your run-of-the-mill website offers.

The Result

And we think we found it in the end. We built a site that offers a client complete end-to-end guidance on the site thay want to launch, taking domain, hosting, security (SSL even), design, and content into account, all at a VERY reasonable budget. We think this is a good one 🙂
